A Wonderful vintage wood Japanese pagoda tiered tower puzzle! An amazing challenge for fans of three-dimensional puzzles.

Complete. No missing pieces. It is in the original box it came in and has never been taken apart. I bought it at Pier 1 Imports in 1973. It comes apart and you have instruction on how to put it back together. Brain Teaser or Décor to go on a shelf for display.

These types of Japanese puzzles are called “kumiki” and are said to be related to the traditional construction of wooden buildings that did not use nails or glue. The Five-story Pagoda at Horyu-ji in Nara, Japan, is a beautiful example of a traditional Japanese wooden pagoda. The building is one of the oldest made of wood in the world; it was built in the seventh century.

In Japanese culture, Pagodas are considered as good luck and are able to ward off negative chi and provide protection. The pagoda is most effective in warding off any bad energy and pernicious forces in your surroundings. It is also a powerful symbol of protection. Place this handsome pagoda in your living room to safeguard your household.

Each puzzle is handcrafted, and each is displayed as a small work of art. They are created in precision as is evident in how exact the puzzle pieces go together.

Kumiki Puzzles are unique wood design pieces that interlock. The Japanese Pagoda has 5 tiers and a top. Each Kumiki puzzle has a "key" piece that must be found and cleverly disassembled. Tsunetaro Yamanaka (1874-1954) was the first craftsman to design and construct puzzles that resembled buildings.

A small gouge on the underneath roof on corner of bottom roof. A small chip on underneath corner of base. Would make a great addition to a collection of wood 3D puzzles.
