Vintage Native American Sand Painting Ceremonial Wedding Vase Bird Feathers Design Made in USA
Vintage Native American Sand Painting Ceremonial Wedding Vase Bird Feathers Design Made in USA
Purchased in the 1980’s. This is a beautiful handmade Vintage sand painting ceremonial wedding vase. The Wedding Vase is an ancient vessel still used in Native American wedding ceremonies. Each spout of the vessel represents one of those to be wed. The looped handle represents the unity achieved with marriage.
The space created within the loop represents the circle of life. In the traditional ceremony, the couple drink nectar (prepared by the medicine man) from the spouts to represent the blending of their lives. The pot is a reflection of the ancient rite. Colors Tan, soft beige, and turquoise. Bird and feathers designs encompass the exterior.
Feathers are widely believed among North American Indians to signify the connection between the Creator. Birds play a wide variety of roles in Native American Mythology and feather symbolizes high honor, power, wisdom, trust, strength, and freedom. Frequently they serve as a messenger from the Creator, or between humans and the spirit world. This is a Double Spout Wedding vase.

The vase has a Primitive look and feel. The stenciled illustrations stand out a little higher from the main surface area. Artist signed. This is my last piece of this pottery from my 1980s inventory.
