Vintage, Old Store Stock. 1990 Carved Rabbit Netsuke Holding A Carrot.
Looking over it closely I noticed that the right foot has been repaired before it was sent in my shipping order. Also, a chip under the foot which is not that noticeable. It is still a cute antique finish item for display or in a craft project. Would look nice sitting with an artificial succulent which is in an old teacup and saucer. Nice creative gift for a friend who likes rabbits. This is the only one I have left. Measures 2 inches tall and 1 2/16 inches wide. Over the years I had ordered many of these craved miniature animals for the store. It was a favorite item for customers who collected miniature animals. Made in Hong Kong. Has gold foil tag on bottom of Rabbit.
The real Japanese Netsuke is a miniature sculpture, originating in 17th century. Initially a simply carved button fastener on the cords of an inrō box. Netsuke later developed into ornately sculpted objects of craftsmanship. About 80 percent of surviving antique netsuke were carved in various types of native Japanese wood—cypress, cherry, black persimmon, yew, camphor, zelkova, and camellia. Elephant tusk ivory was one of the most popular materials for netsuke carvers for centuries. Antique Netsuke Figurine Values can be between $2,000-$20,000.
